    the pumpkin draws my eye more than cooper does, and if you're doing pet portraits you don't want that. maybe turn down the flash lighting the background?

    What livin said and also separation of pet and pumpkin.
    Focus seems to be on pumpkin and not Cooper.

    Maybe just spin the pumpkins around so the faces are hidden.

    Its a cute set up. I agree, get that main light on the dogs face and eyes. Get that twinkle (catch light) in the eyes.

    I like the setup and the pumpkins. I do agree that they steal attention from the subject although the solutions already presented are good. I like the faces in the pumpkins, but maybe turning around the big one and having the small one next to the dog on the floor looking up would work as well. That way they upward looking eyes will "force" the viewer to look towards the subject's face.
