    Tenderfoot frigid sunrise

Well the cold snap is hanging on here. Not quite as bad as earlier in the week but still -15 F this morning. That was extra hard when I saw this from my kitchen and decided I needed to run outside in my socks to get the shot. But I felt like I had to. Brrr!
Shot with my Pentax K-5 and a vintage manual focus Pentax A* 300mm f/4. A wonderful old lens!

I think this would make an outstanding pano, as is there is not enough happening in the sky and this has a lot of sky.

Thanks for the feedback. I hear what you say about the clouds and had considered a panoramic crop but decided to leave it as one of those times you break the rules of composition. But I tried another frame as a pano and it certainly works that way.

Here's the original again. I accidentally modified it and broke the link above.

I can just imagine this as a banner atop a photographic website front page.

The panoramic is great, and likely the best for this shot. However, I know what you were thinking about breaking the standard rules with leaving more sky, and I like it. Every now and then in odd situations, I try a square crop. Perhaps try a square that captures the best of the lit trees/light rays, keeping it somewhat tight.

Edit: Internet messed up and made a double post, and I don't see a way to delete a post...
