    Tall dreams

I wasn't intending to use selective color again on these shots of my son, but what do you think this time? I felt like in the color shot, he really got lost in the picture. Any suggestions besides selective color on how to make him stand out more?

    Re: Tall dreams

I can see the problem - the hoop is so high and he is so small! All I can suggest is to reshoot it with your son much larger in the frame - perhaps with you lying on the ground at his feet and shooting upwards so you get him quite large and the hoop a little out of focus above him?

    Cheers

Part of the problem is the background. Its so busy and the pole appears to be a tree with branches.
Its a great idea for a shot but since that isn't a movable pole, I don't know what you can do except find another location or try what Mike suggested.

I'm trying to analyze first and then compare mine to the more accomplished photographers here. I didn't know what to do on this one.

The selective coloring certainly helps emphasize your cute subject, and probably is your best option to save this photo, but I think the critiques of Didache and Frog really got to the heart of the problem. I learned. Thanks for posting.

    Re: Tall dreams

I agree w/ Mike Frog and Paula - a few tough one to solve since there are so many distracting elements in the back and the kid is so small in the frame. My best idea for a reshoot is as Mike's - I would be to get a super wide angle lens or whatever you can round up and shoot him much closer from a low angle, getting the hoop in too.
