    Re: Talking shadows

    I love it!
Very graphic, but also very organic. No actual people so it's kind of lonely, or rather stark,...but then there are the shadows.

This is fantastic! I love the composition and the different, contrasting elements that go in to make up this scene, well done, great capture!

I like it, great point of view and angle with nice composition. The shadows of the people add interest, it really tells a story.

    Re: Talking shadows

The walls and angles bother my eyes but in a good way as if forces me to look at the photo for a long time trying to figure out what's going on. I still haven't but that's ok.
I would like to mark this as one of my favorites but it isn't in your gallery...HINT-HINT.
Would be nice to see it bigger.

Only complaint is that I don't like the frame and find it distracting.

    Re: Talking shadows

Yet another example of why your work frustrates the hell out of me.

I particularly love the color variations on the brick wall.

Would be interested, as usual, in the camera settings and whatever else you did to get the image to look this way.

    Re: Talking shadows

No one has mentioned it but, what I love most about this shot is the open window on the left eavesdropping in on the conversation of the shadows!!! :wink5:

Keep 'em coming Liban -- GOOD STUFF.

Escher-like in the complexity of angles, and the disorientation of the viewpoint.

    Re: Talking shadows

Thanks for the feedback all. much appreciated.

Frog, I got your hint. lol. I've been meaning to put up the pictures in the gallery section, but I get lazy every time i decide to post.

As far as the scene goes. it's really simple. There are three buildings involved, I was on the roof of one pointing my camera down. The other building is the one that the shadow of the people are cast on. The third building is to the left and there's a narrow staired alley way between building 2 and three. There were street lamps to the left of this scene and why the balcony on the 2nd building (the one on the right) casts a shadow semi upwards. The people were standing in the balcony of the floor that was directly below me and their shadow was cast by a combination of the street lights and lights in the balcony itself. I think.

I hope that clears it up. 1st & 2nd buildings are attached btw.

Dray, All I did for this one PP wise is desaturate it a bit, as I was using my Vivid setting on my cam and it was way too saturated. I think the colour variation comes from the there were other lights, perhaps whiter on the street to the left and the level of the light disipitating as it moved up or something. not sure exactly. Also, i thought the alley was way too yellow but no one is complaining about that so that's great. i'm pretty sure this was shot with my 18-200mm Nikkor lense. The exact settings, im not sure about (cause i'm at work right now) but nothing fancy, probably a 1sec exposure. Nothing too long judging from the shadows of the people.

Paul, I used to love Escher's work when glancing at art, but I never knew his name and it never registered in my brain even if I saw it once or twice! Thanks for mentioning him, now I know what name to search for when looking for him.

    Thanks all.

    Re: Talking shadows

I'm very disappointed. Not in the photo, but in the fact that I can't see the photo. I have tried on 3 different computers, using 3 different OS's and browsers...

Edit: Of course, once I post my troubles in the Site Feedback forum, I try to take another look and there's the image.

This is very cool! I wish I didn't have to wait so long to finally see it, but it was worth it. The first thought that came to mind when I saw this was "trippy". I really like it, and I can't stop looking at it. There is so much going on in this image, but really not much of anything going on at the same time. Does that make any sense at all? I love the colors, and the lines and angles are fantastic. Nice capture!

    Re: Talking shadows

    Liban,
No, the alley is not way too yellow - maybe, if building 1 & 2 were different colors it would have a negative impact, but as is, the yellow alley is very complimentary to the other elements and tones. Very nice shot, as usual!

    Re: Talking shadows

oh wow mike, sorry to hear that. Not sure why that happened. And yeah it does make sense. It's almost like a void but with much to look at. That's why i was wondering about this shot. I actually shot it last september and was just holding it back cause i wasn't so sure about it. Thanks

    Thanks Jet!

Yeah it does have the different images brought together look. thanks ray

twolfe, i'll have to rethink the borders from now on. a lot of people don't like 'em. thanks

    thanks anny.

Frog, i uploaded a bigger one to my gallery. I'l start doing that from now on.

Seth, I just looked at the exif data, and boy was i wrong. the shutter speed says 130/10 sec. I'm guessing that means 13 seconds??? F10 and ISO 200.

I know I had been drinking that night, but I didn't think 13 seconds would equal 1 second ever. lol. Also I gotta wonder now, if those two people stayed in that pose for that long.

I can't shoot anything decent when I'm drinking though it seems I'm getting wonderful stuff at the time.
