I'm just learning how to use my new photo editing software...so is this technique that I used a "photography faux paux"? Is it silly? Should I have kept the entire pic b&w? Suggestions?

Some like selective color and some don't.
I think it works pretty good in this one.
What I don't like is the top of his head being chopped off.

Thank you for the comments Frog. I thought I had read somewhere that cropping off the top of a head is compositionally "ok" sometimes. Do you think it just doesn't work for this photo or is it never okay?

Selective coloring can be really effective with certain kinds of shots. liking it is also very subjective. For me, I don't think it works, thinkinh a straight b&w or all color would produce a better image. Nit-picking, the choped foot is noticed and more glaring than the tight crop of the head. Cute guy, cute pose.

Head chop doesn't work in this case at least for me.
No expert but I think it only is acceptable on facial close-ups.
