    Swiss Glacier

This photograph was taken with my digital compact on a recent trek over the Swiss Alps. I did intend to take my 20D but due to weight and bulk being so important when you're carrrying everything on your back, I decided that less is best.

As a result of taking less kit, I had a number of photos that were just snapshots but this one didn't turn out too bad. Would be interested in any views and comments??

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Re: Swiss Glacier

At this size it is a pretty good mountainscape. Particularly for have been photographed with a P/S. There is detail loss in the lower left that is understandable both from compression and from undoubtedly limitations of the original. I'd imagine much of that could be recovered with some minor post-processing. Appears that a level balance and some other contrast work could improve this image.

The contrast between the clouds and peaks worked out well. Again, some post processing to improve the brightness (a curve adjustment) seems to be in order.

This is an image that in larger scale I'd like to see if it could be converted to b/w or very high contrast. Good compositional framing to use the elements to provide leading lines and establish areas of visual interest (that rule of thirds phenomena!).

Thanks for showing and would like to see more.

    Thanks for the comments.

I was actually glad to see a few dark clouds behind the mountain to ease exposure complications. For most of the week I had bright blue skies as a backdrop to my photos which my compact was struggling to cope with!
