    Swan Song

These are 4 shots from my daughter's dance recital this weekend. The dancer is my daughter's teacher who is graduating and off to college next year so this was her "Goodbye" solo. I like them although I wish they were a smidge sharper. I'm going to give her prints as a thank you but wanted to see what the forum thought and if you have any suggestions for presentation of the four. Thanks!

Comments and Critiques Welcomed. Suggestions Cheerfully Explored, but please leave the editing to me.

Cindy, that must have been some very tough light to work with. The only one I see that is obviously blurred is the last one---the others, not so much. I don't know what kind of presentation you plan on using, but I think the second shot should be the one of primary focus. JMHO.

Cindy - With cropping, # 2 and # 3 may be able to be sharpened up to where they wil be acceptable for printing. If you find it impossible to do so, try going the other way and perhaps using software to make them even blurrier as an artistic presentation. # 1 is too tight a crop for me btw.

I think the first one is the best one, but I see a lot of grain/noise? in the others. A crop could eliminate most of of it. What was your settings, including mm. I think the closer you can get and use the fastest glass the better you will be. You might also run them through some kind of Noise Reduction software.

I love the negative space and gesture in the last one, I just wish she was off to the right a bit more, while, I don't always agree with the golden rule(rule of the thirds), I think it would help a lot in this situation.

    Re: Swan Song

...the second one i think gives you the best chance of giving her that going away ..youv'e grown up...leaving the nest kinda feeling.....Its the best capture without the blurriness of the low light speed situation. I don't think the emptiness of the black void hurts at all and adds to that going out into the unknown kinda feeling. OK..now that were all crying.....anyway I wanted to post this exact comment yesterday but you seemed to be heading into the 4 picture incorporation thing. My .02 cents

    ohhh..daughters teacher...same opinion..less dramatics

Cindy, I feel the last one works best for me, but it needed to be sharper. The negative space all around her appeals to me in this.

    Re: Swan Song

Thank you for all of the great input as always! I have come up with a composite that, I think, leaves some wiggle room for sharpness. Does this present well? Thanks again for all of your thoughts.

    Re: Swan Song

    CL,

Sorry I'm late coming to this but work has been hectic with little time for photography lately.

I think the final picture is amazing and I'm sure she would be pleased with it.

    Nice work
