    Sunrise

I see that there are a few sunset photo posts in here right now, so why not a sunrise. I was lucky enough to be able to get out on my deck in the morning for a few minutes before I had to catch the bus. It wasn't a spectacular sunrise like I have seen before, but it looked good enough for me. Let me know what you think.

Works for me, simple. Nice dramatic sky. Looks like it would be a good background for...something.

And props for getting up early enough for a sunrise...I rarely do that. ;)

D - Some more very nice scenics here. I like the first better because it doesnt seem that there is enough balance in shot # 2, like a counter object on the left side. But both are pretty. Next time though, I would use a polarizer to try to increase contrast. But you can do this in PP also.

I dont have a polarizer, but I could have added more in editing. Thanks for the comments. On the second one, I was shooting it as a similar shot I took last February (also a sunrise) that had the tree in the same location.

Ok. I would recommend getting a polarizer as soon as you can afford one (they tend to be expensive btw). A landscape photographer w/o a polarizer... well, add any cliche phrase ya want here.. but you should have one! They're easier to accept if you typically use tripods however because they do subtract 1 to 2 f-stops when using them, so be prepared for that.

That's another problem, unless I am shooting a waterfall, or if it is a bit dark, I dont use a tripod. All of my lenses have UV filters though. I will look into it though in the future.

These shots have great colour and drama but sky shots cannot stand alone. An effective foreground is equally necessary and sometimes even a middle ground to give the photo depth.

I agree, that's one reason for the tree. If I were to look any lower, I would have run into my neighbor's house, lower lying trees, and powerlines... and that wouuld not make for a very good foreground. Next time I'll try from my roof if I have the time to prepare, and then I may be able to single out the hill as a backdrop across the lake.
