Sunflower

My wife dragged me to the sunflower festival back in July. It was not as good a location for shooting as I would have hoped, but I did get this one. The color version did not stand out from the background very much, so I played with it a bit.... originally, I was going to just tone down the bg a bit, but I got carried away and took everything except the yellow of the sunflower down to sepia (can you see what toy I'm carried away with lately?). I also cropped quite a bit, as the flower was originally center frame.

Any comments are welcomed.

I love selective colouring. Do you think it would work if the stem, bud and some of the adjoining leaves were colour too.

I agree with Alison. I too like the selective coloring, and have done similar shots with sunflowers & other flowers. A freiend suggested I not remove the color from the stem & very closeby buds or leaves, and it improved the picture. Try it that way.

Thank you both... I may give it a shot this week, as I seem to have a lack of work...

that's really quite eye-catching! I think just a tint of green in the stem and leaves would improve the shot, but not enough to take away from the "wow" factor of the bright yellow flower petals.
