    Sunburst technique

Took this out in the desert recently of a friend. Looks a little plain to me, wish it had something more to spice it up - Suggestions? Kodachome 64 Film.

Hmmm, nice idea, just a few things I think I'd use to maximize the potential. The rule of thirds would be a perfect example of how you can really add good composition to this pic. It's just too centred for me right now. I think a little more visible sun would be good too, she's almost blocking too much out for me, kinda a tough line to draw between drawing more sun or no sun. Nice shot, but could be maximized to make a great shot.

    Just me,

This is a good concept with an interesting graphic strenght but the location of your subject (dead center) spoil the picture as I see it. I would put her in the right third of the frame considering her posture.

Contrarily to Jared, I wouldn't say that she block the sun too much. I enjoy how the sun create a luminous effect arround her. It seems that your subject get overwhelming because she is dead centered. A simple crop would be a kick and effetive fix.

To avoid misinterpretation of my critique, I must flesh out my critique a little more. First off, it very well may be my monitor through which I view this that is causing me to say this. But the main reason I'd like more or less sun is that there is not detail at all on the silhouette figure, which I do enjoy, minus the part of her feet. Just looking at that square inch of the pictures makes it look like the person is just part of the mountain. That's why I mentioned the more/less sun critique.

Thanks Jared for pointing out this. I think I would like more light arround the feet too.

Yeah, pretty much dead center My excuse is that the model didn't like to hold poses, but that's a poor excuse.. I have to get better at composing and firing quickly. Attached is a crop.

Someone at work here pointed out that it looks like a statue.... hmmmmm. It does, maybe like one you'd see in the center of Beijing of ol' Mao I guess it has a 1950s feel to it (to me, anyway).

    Thks for the comments!
