The Sun Is Setting - A question

    Howdy,

Last picture I'll post today.. Promise.. Sorry! :blush2: I love this image, or at least the concept of it, but there's just something not quite right... I'm not sure whether it's out of focus slightly (or not in focus at the right point!) or whether it's just badly composed but.. I've made efforts to try and correct it too, through cropping.

If it'd come out right, this is an image I'd love to have blown up. But like I say.. Just doesn't seem right somehow! Here's the original, followed by two attempts to 'add something' to the image through cropping.

Let me know what you think, if you could.. I'd value some expert opinions. And apologies again for posting yet another image! :blush2:

Something does seem blurry here, though it may be due to compression. What settings did you use? (especially shutter speed)

The sunset is beautiful, and for your location, the composition seems fine.

I like the last crop the most.

For this one, it was 1/40 shutter speed with f4.5. I do quite like the last (square) crop, and feel that that might look good on a square canvas print...

Still not sure, though. I do like the image, but like I say, there's just something that seems 'not right' around it.. Could just be me though! (I do have dodgy eyes.. Haha).

Cheers for the reply Mr Yuck!

if you're shooting under 1/60 shutter speed without image stabilization or a tripod, blur caused by camera shake will be very difficult to avoid. (you'll want to go even faster if you're zoomed in)

Thanks for the tip . I don't exactly try to 'avoid' using my tripod.. I just don't find it entirely convenient at times haha. As it happens, this pic was snapped shortly after the Balloon pic I posted in another thread. I spotted the sunset and pushed the camera high up over the metal fence you can just barely see.. Before clicking a few times.

This was certainly the clearest of the images. Had the fence not been there, I'm sure I could've minimised blur.. But, unfortunately, the building site down the end of our road isn't exactly photographer-friendly .

I'll bear your point in mind in the future, though, and have the hindsight to walk around the 6'5" fence before spotting the beautiful sunset. Oops :blush2:!

Blurred horizon or not, I'm still drawn to those clouds. Those are awesome.

I see what the others are talking about in the horizon, but when you see a sky like that you just have to take the shot. What a sky!

I agree with Mr. Yuck on the use of a tripod for such a low shutter speed but for this shot I think it all worked out. The sky steals the show here. I prefer the 2nd shot the most.

I like the second shot too. The horizon isn't really the subject, my eyes are drawn to the sky, as has been said. Personally, anyone who would not take that shot because it is "another sunset shot" I would not be interested in talking to, especially about photography. Thanks for sharing.
