    Subtle Beauty

FINALLY getting over this damn bug and managed to get out for a little bit of a hike after work the other afternoon. Didn't wind up with much for shots but, something about the lighting on this one I really liked. What do you all think?

You got some lovely light there to show off the delicate beauty of the fern. My eye, however, kept going to the light twig on bottom left - I would clone that out myself. Maybe rotate the image a little clockwise and crop a tad too?

    Cheers

The twig doesn't bother me, it seems to be in context. I agree with Mike about the crop.

I like the oblique lines, and the color. It's so soothing.

There is more of a natural visual flow when you flip the image horizontally to the direction of the fronds is going to the right, and more visual tension when they move to the left.

As a viewer I always feel a tension when things read from right to left, but sometimes that can be put to good use!

Thank you very much for the input I tried playing with the crop a bit but not quite sure I've got it right. This any better?

I think it is better. I think it is a very nice image and a good edit.

To get it to go any farther..I think you would be looking at some masking and compositing to involve at least one more frond. Or a tight crop. where the two fronds interesect filling the frame.

I think you're done, though. Unless you wanted to try de-emphasing your twigs, but that wouldn't be my personal choice.

    Very nice!

Aaron I really like the subject, lighting and composition. It does seem a little over processed some. I am not really sure why? I would like to see more details in the plants.

Thanks Greg. What can I say, you know me, I have a tendency to overdo things I wish I could have captured more detail but, it was dark lighting, there was a good breeze going, and I didn't have a tripod. This was actually sharpest out of about 15 shots of this fern Here's the original for comparison....
