    Re: A stump

I've got one of these but had taken it with the Stump in the immediate fg the exact opposite of this composition. I like this approach as well. I feel your composition is very strong. Great that you got low enough to bring the stump up over the horizon and reeds.
I think your lighting condition here was a bit too harsh to bring out the glow of the yellow grass, but on the other hand the heavy light and dark contrasts from the shadows in the fg bring it back to life and save the image.
Great comp, framing and a lighting that happened to work . .anyway
    Nice stuff

    Re: A stump

There is a lot to like here.

#1 Your placement of the horizon.
    #2 All that foreground.
#3 Where you placed the stump.

The problem I see is too much contrast. I would like to see how it would look if you shot from just a tad higher so the mountains were just a little more noticeable.

    Nice.
    No, I DON'T need that.

    Re: A stump

i think the comp is ok as it is. But as i was scrolling down to view the whol image i saw it cropped just below the stump to create a horizontal pano and i think it is a much stronger image that way. although that might just be because it eliminates alot of the harsh light in the FG

    Re: A stump

Thank you MB1 and Gary for your comments!

I myself find the lighting a bit on the harsh side, too, after I posted it. It doesn't look that harsh in PS. Anyhow, I also found the shadows on the grass kind of forming two paths leading from the foreground towards the stump.
