The subject and comp is very good and so I think whatever effect you use on it will work. This effect looks fine, but I have a feeling I might prefer the original. In any case, i like it.
I seriously like this one .. it's the combination of the textures of the hat with the splash of colour of the hatband. Would you mind telling us what filters (or whatever) you used?
Gary, Mike I'm glad that you both responded favorably to this.
Gary, yes you would like a more normal or natural view of this. I will post more later.
Mike, Craqulure. Filter-texture-craqulure. amounts I don't know. I liked this version and saved it. I tried on friday to reproduce this effect and didn't even come close. Craqulure is the main filter, though I must have done something else. My edit software is pse2
Mark.
I like the effect but a don't like how you handeled the plastic on the lower right. I am not sure what to do different, but other than that I like it.

I am like Barney Fife, I have a gun but Andy makes me keep the bullet in my pocket..
Mark, quite obvious that the edited version has a greater appeal. I have used the craquelure texture filter a few times before for various things but it looks to be that there was quite a bit more to this than just adding the texture.
The effect treatment on this one is certanly the way to go.
Nice work
Gary, this is the unedited version that i first posted. its lit just by the cameras pop up flash.I meant to post this also last night but i was lit by more than a few beers.
I put my 80-400 tokina lens and kenko 2x tc on just to check sharpnes. Shot the hat because of the detail in it.
Greg, the plastic bothers me to. This should be reshot and will be with a 50 or 100mm lense.
Thanks fr posting,
Mark.
