    Smile Stormy clouds...

Here's a shot that I took just after a rainstorm in Mexico. (Photo was Paint Shopped a bit).

    Re: Stormy clouds...

Sorry, AMDA, but I just don't see much in photos of clouds without foreground relevance.
I think you caught the colors very well and it is a beautiful sky.
It is just my opinion but even though it is a beautiful sky does not mean it makes a beautiful photograph.

I have to disagree with frog. I like the way you've captured the light rays as well as the contrast between the light and dark areas of the sky. I have attempted shots like this and not yet achieved them so I appreciate what you've done.

That being said.... a foreground subject would've made it even better, but you have to start somewhere.

    Thanks Jaedon,

I remember seeing nothing in the foreground that would have been worth including in the photo: Telephone wires, a roof with a television antenna, lamppost.

I had gone outside and managed to grab a quick shot before the lighting changed, it did quite fast.

I have seen some of those fine art photos that have nothing but...clouds

I have to remind you though that I don't know art.

But then, I also say if you can't find anything better to photograph, look up. Why? Because clouds have shape, light and form, what photography is about

I faced this exact same problem this evening! An absolutely incredible sunset through the light cloudy bands of TS Hanna. The sky actually looked like ravencrew's Rolling Flames photo and nothing but electic lines and an FPL substation as a foreground By the time I hiked a few blocks down to a wooded foreground, the light had changed and the shot was gone. (I did take a couple snaps of just the clouds though, they were WAY cool!

And FWIW from another newbie here I like your shot for the play of colors and textures.

I wouldn't normally post a pic in someone's thread, but don't be afraid to add even crappy foreground stuff into your pictures.

I'm not saying this is a good picture, just showing an example of how you can include the stuff that you initially think is "getting in the way."

I really like this photo! I have 100's of "cloud shots" living in the south our storm/hurricane clouds and sky can be stunning
Your is beautiful Dr! ( I always grin at your name, the town next to me is called Roebuck!)

Seems very strange, like a puzzle. Not sure what to make of it.. It does seem processed, perhaps like multiple photos in one.

Actually, all I did was darken the sky some. And it is one photo, not multiple ones.

    Re: Stormy clouds...

What you have here is pretty good. It has an ethereal way about it with the rays and the clouds silver lining. It would go well in a series of cloud and sky images.
DrRoebucks example is a good one in that even if you feel the FG elements are not worthy for inclusion, they still make make for some interesting shapes and patterns to add to the scene. Especially when they are silhouettes.

    Thanks gaphsidy.

Next time I'm taking scenic shots, I'll remember to check if any foreign elements can be included in the picture.

    Unhappy Unauthorized downloads.

I had to remove the “Stormy clouds” photo due to a large number of unauthorized downloads. Sorry.
I very much appreciated your critiques. Thanks.
