I flew from Anchorage to Chicago earlier this week. Due to significant thunderstorms covering most of the midwest, specifically Chicago, the flight was routed along the Canadian/US border as far east as Traverse City, Michigan then south along the eastern shoreline of Lake Michigan, then west across the Lake into O'Hare. The intent was to miss as much of the storms as possible, but we still had to decend through them. As we were passing through layers of clouds I noticed the wonderful colors reflecting off ice crystals in the air. Plus, how the leading edge of the engine intake cowling would freeze, thaw, freeze, thaw. As you will see from these images, I enhanced the color of the first image which limits the ability to see the obvious freezing shown in the second image. Also, as we are between layers of clouds, the sun is shining through one layer as we approach another. I thought you might like to see these.
