Steppin' out

First, let me qualify that this is NOT my photograph. I was actually one of the jumpers on this load (but not one of the fellows in this shot) and gave me camera to a flight crewman to snap some shots.

This was out of a Chinook helicopter. I like the vista of the composition, but wish it was a little sharper. I included a crop with a blur photo editing effect; for comment.

Eek...I'm skeered just looking at the photos!!! I like it better uncropped...you get more a feel for the "falling" with that version. Plus, I really like the close up on the one guy, and then in the very far distance the second jumper...great shape on the parachute.

Well even if it is not actually your photograph, it is great and I particularly like the shape of the person in the background on the larger image with the two legs sticking out under the open parachute, just crop out the small amount of helicopter floor that you can see and you have a winner!

wonderful image, I too prefer the uncropped version which gives you the full impact of the fall. it would be perfect without the tiny edge of the plane that peeps out, but ths is a detail of no consequence, the picture's great!

Me too about the full image! Did you notice the skull inside what looks like a racetrack? not a good omen! About the small pic, at first it did nothing for me but after a bit I think I see what you're getting at. Cloning out the rope may make it look like he's hangin' on for dear life!

Thats not a race track its a burial mound HeHe!

Excellent photo - the full pic for me and what nut jumps out on a round parachute - the Wing gives you a much softer landing :-)

Good God, I didn't even notice that skull down there! I'm glad none of the first-time jumpers noticed it either, they were nervous enough already ...

This flight crewman was probably a natural photographer and didn't know it. He shot a lot of good ones that day, though many could have used a faster shutter speed: I'll have to dig them up, post em.

Skydiving is a BLAST folks! But as photographers you can take it one step farther and become a freefall photographer by mounting your camera on your helmet. I did that for awhile (bout 30-40 camera jumps), found it was a little harder than it seemed I'll have to dig through those shots and post a few... it's been about 10 yrs.

Also -- Do you really think cropping out the ramp would improve it? I thought it 'placed' the scene, esp since the static line was there.

As I said keep the frame in photo as it gives you a perspective of distance that you would loose otherwise. My opinion of course.
