Steam Power -- Ready and Waiting

    Hi all,
Shot this in my recent trip to the Canadian Rockies. I'm interested in your thoughts.
    Thanks,
    Tim

Re: Steam Power -- Ready and Waiting

Run, Tim! Get out of the way!!!

Well, that was my initial thought. I like the line the train makes. Overall, an interesting photo. I think it would be more interesting with some clouds in the sky, but I can't fault you for not having learned to alter the weather. I'm curious about what's out of view on the right. I think I would have put the front of the train off center to the left, but I wasn't there, so...

    Nice shot!

Tim, i like this . Well, I like trains and so that helps too. You;ve got a fine image here with good lighting, colors scenery, exposure, sharpness. . .it's all here. The only thing I feel here is maybe steppeing back a bit as it feels a little tight . But still, as it is, this image works for me. Good shot

Re: Steam Power -- Ready and Waiting

Thanks for the look and review guys...

Paul, I was waiting for the pressure relief valve to lift to get a good puff of steam.... and waited... but didn't wait long enough. That would have added a whole bunch. It's interesting that the steam and smoke from the stack shows on this image when on the CRT, but all but disappears when I print it. (I also see a dust speck above the train here on the CRT that doesn't show on the print).

Gary, thanks for the crop suggestion. I've actually printed to full frame version and am looking at it right now on my wall. There is open space to the right of the water tower, left of the station, and in front of the train. It looks a bit more open like you suggest.

However I've been staring at it for a couple of weeks now, and it just seems like a nice calendar-cliche image of a train out in the country. For me, the tighter crop just gives more drama (like the viewer is in harms way), but I agree with you. It is a bit tight.

I don't know which way to go on this. Hmmm....

Thanks again all, and have a great weekend,
    Tim
