Can anyone suggest any other ways of attaining this sort of shot, short of getting lucky.
Sure, good timing. Comes from patience waiting for the bird, and lots of practice.
Do just what you didn't do :) "sit and hope I could press the button in time"
Or technology, set up crossed lasers and detectors, wired up to a computer that detects the broken beams and when both are broken turns off the lasers and then takes a shot - all within thousandths of a second.
There's a video device that clips onto the eyepiece, it can be programmed to look for movement and take a photo asoon as it detects movement in the image. Costs about the same as the 90 degree finder form Canon (about hte same as a 4G CF card).
A wired remote like the Canon timer remote can do the same as you've done. But that will use the memory card and not download thorugh the USB to your computer, so the number of images you can take would be more limited.

Umm...spreadeagle tit? Was it wrong for me to assume there would be naked people involved? Yes, apparently.:aureola:
Re: Spreadeagle Tit-How to?
It's a very cool image, although I think I would like to go about it by following the bird, and lots and lots of practice.
I haven't tried hooking my camera up to my PC like this yet, but the more I hear people talking about it, the more I want to give it a try.
I have done something similar to this with my DRebel and the RS-60E3 remote shutter release. I set the camera up the way I wanted, then set the release to the "bulb" setting, and walked away. There is a delay between some of the shots though because once the buffer is full, the camera has to write a file to the CF card before it can take the next shot.
Re: Spreadeagle Tit-How to?
Thanks guys I realise the patience factor is heavily involved for greatest job satisfaction and for getting the shots you really want instead of hoping for them. But that sort of patience I am not too good at.
Sorry to dissapoint you Liz.:blush2:
