    The Spot

It has been awhile since I have tried any street stuff. Let me know what you think.

I reiterate that there are shades of Tuna here. Guillermo, too (even though the bicycle isn't "red," per se).

Really great shot. As a variation, I might like to see it with a warmer cast, just to see what that looks like.

    Re: The Spot

It may be an optical illusion but it appears to not be level but I can't find an unlevel line.
I really like this shot though I do find the sign hanging above the window to be distracting because of its angle. Don't know what you could do about that though.

    Re: The Spot

I agree w/ Frog that something seems a bit off with the geometry.. closer examination shows that it's really not an optical illusion, that the right side ground (sidewalk?) is slightly higher than the left as are the windows. However, the vertical line groups of things at the very top line up. There's also a little vertical angle on the right side wide, which you can see as it lines up with the side of the image.

Does it make a difference? Some people can detect it. I'm like Frog in that even very slight imperfections in geometry yell at me. It's one of the reasons I don't do architectural photography with my 35mm cameras - I've found that each and every lens I own, Nikon, Tamron.., have barrel distortion, and it's really evident with straight line subjects - even the horizon can curve. My Mamiya lenses have little to none so I guess it's just a lens quality issue, as Mamiya is know for excellent lenses.

Anyway! I like your shot but the tonality may lean too much towards the bright side (funny). Might also be too much negative space at the top, which I see you needed to do to keep the whole sign in there. Try cropping a little and see what you get as an expt .. I think the original will still win though. I like the bicyclist here - what about a little blur on him though?

    Hi Greg

I think the optical illusion (if that is what it is) might be mitigated if you include just a little bit of road at the bottom. As it is, the very tight crop on the kerb makes the geometry a little unforgiving. Good to see you back at what you do best

    Cheers

    Love it!

Maybe it would benefit by cropping at the top. I find those vertical grates in the brick quite distracting.

    Re: The Spot

Thanks Dray, Frog, yes I see the tilt but just thought it was the old building or something. I might try and do some PS skewing. Mike I have enough to put in some curb if needed. Trevor I though about cropping the vents at the top but it would cut into the sign. Cloning them is an idea though. Thanks all for the great Help. Yes GB I agree with you on the Mamiya lenses. I wish I could fit mine onto the E3.

    I saw that as well.

Like the rider came in with the wind. I wouldn't change a thing Greg.

    Re: The Spot

Greg, i like this and perfect spot for the cyclist to be in against the window where he stands out without distraction. This is a neat, clean composition. I agre about warming it up a bit but I'm good with it as it stands.
    Good one

    Greg,

I like the composition and you timed it just right. I agree with the others about warming it up a tad.

    Re: The Spot

Greg I like the way it looks, I wouldn't move or take anything out. The vents add to it. It looks great.

    Re: The Spot

I didn't notice the tilt until it was pointed out and even then I had to "look" for it. I think the vents add interest and would leave them.
