I see you took some of Brents advise. I think these are a very nice improvement. You have the ball in all of the shots. I like the composition on #1 and #2 the best. I would have shot #3 in landscape and had all of the girl in the shot. Nothing you can do about the distracting people in the background? That's sports I guess. Nice improvement Tyson.

a great improvement! you've got that ball, and faces. I like the framing of the first one, the BG is just a distraction. Very tough to avoid in a confined sport like softball though. #2 is just a tough shot because of where you are. I know a couple of photos who shoot with a 400mm f/2.8 and a 1.4x-2x converter from center field and only then do you get really good images. other lenses just can't really get close enough. #3 is good timing, but I would stand on the 1st base line if you can, not the 3rd. Most batters are righty, and with girls you don't get the same follow through as you do with guys, so most of the faces are going to be had from the side they are facing. and the lower you can get the more of the face you can get too, because they sure do love to hide it under those helmets.

How do you approach coaches to let you take photos, I am not with the news paper or anything?

strike a deal for permission. One of the best parts about being a photographer is the ability to barter with your photos. I made a deal where I would be allowed ad space in exchange for senior photos. Do the same thing. Offer to shoot a team photo or something in exchange for them granting you access to more of the field. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. And you may not even have to barter, just make your photos available for everyone to look at and say "if i have access, I can get better photos that everyone will enjoy looking at." That's how I got the permission to put the camera inside the lacrosse goal. I said it would be a great opportunity and it would provide players and parents with unique, interesting photos that they would love looking at, and they didn't have a problem with it. Give it a try. the worst thing they can do is say no and you'll be in the same position you are now.

And yes, you are getting better. Progressing faster than I did... My first couple months of sports photography were pretty pathetic, I have to say. The only reason I am now decent is because I've been at it basically non stop for 3 years now.

    Re: Sports Action !! Brent?

There is another Gal that has a canon (yuck) that has a girl on my team that is taking photos. I don't know who she is yet, my daughter makes fun of me because she has a "bigger camera" than I do. I told her I could drop my camera and get better pictures than her LOL. I don't like sports too much but I love the photos, I guess I am crazy.

I will try to make a deal with the coach, but I think she has it under control. I took some pictures for a friend of mine of another team. I might see if I can do it for them.

I think I like the first and third shots the best myself.

ouch, cheap shot at the canon shooters. too bad we have about 75% of the sports market, eh? ;)

might as well try, there are never too many photos for parents to look at!

These are some great shots. Excellent action and I echo the rest.

Difficult setting for photography and well pulled off.

Thank you. I couldn't afford a canon, but Ido like Olympus real well. I have been using Olympus all my life, it's kind of like the Ford and Chevy thing.

Indeed I would if these were my kids. I'd be first in line. You got some very great exposures in some difficult light.

    Thanks for sharing!
