    Spiny little plants (macro)

Taken two days ago at a nice shooting location I discovered near my place. Is the PP overdone? Other comments/suggestions are welcomed as usual.

    Camera: PENTAX *ist D
Lens: SIGMA 70-300mm F4-5.6 DG MACRO lens
    Other equipment: Lens hood
    Shutter-speed: 1/500 second
    Aperture: F8.0
    ISO: 800
    Focal length (lens): 210mm
    Focal length (35mm equivalent): 315mm
    Focus mode: Manual
    Metering mode: Matrix

Also if anyone knows what kind of plant this is it would be great.

I think the PP is over-done.
But then the ISO was too high perhaps because the shutter speed was so short.
I'd shoot this with a tripod if the light was that low.

I think you've lost too much detail with the high contrast - it looks like might have had some interesting light and I would have liked to see it softer.

I can see why you chose to shoot these plants - their form has a lot of interest.

    Cheers,

Though it may be highly saturated, I like your first one best. I like the colors and I like the patterns created with your use of DoF. I appreciate the photo for its artistic value.
