These are stunning, I have never seen this tower before and I am pleased that you have introduced it to me at night. The first image has a clear likeness to a venus fly trap and I am really drawn to teh abstract nature of the image.
The second shot is also outstanding, really impressive and so sharp (particularly as these were taken without the use of a tripod), am just wondering if I might crop the bottom slightly, not a major issue though.
I like these a lot. My only nitpicks, and they are nitpicks, are the bottom of both photos. The first is needing more on the bottom and the second is needing less.
I agree with Tim, the shots are oustanding, but the bottom of each shot is somewhat concerning. I bet this would look great on a large print, a great contrast of blue to black.
I toyed with cropping the second above the flag pole but thought the people standing at the bottom added a little something to the ambience. However, I will give it a try tonight to see what it looks like. Question is this the best place to crop?
On the first - Story behind this - I am lying down on a ledge supported by my daughter under the right shoulder. Also two police officers walk past without comment!
I tried for a better shot with more on the bottom but they have too much shake to be useful. The bottom black bit is the rail that I'm wedged under to take the photo.
The clam effect is supposed to look like a billowing spinnaker on a yacht but from this angle the venus fly trap looks like a better comparison.
Jared - I printed a 10x8 of the second and it looks terrific, even with the bottom uncropped.

Having lived in Portsmouth for 3 years when doing my nudergraduate degree it is always nice to see pictures of the Tower in its finished form (for those not local, the tower was to be called the 'Millennium Tower', but because of council mismanagement there was a massive overspend and a big delay in completion).

Just did another trawl through all the photos taken last weekend and found this one.
Is this better?

Crops look much better - less to distract the eye. Living in Newcastle upon Tyne now- at University here doing a PhD. Miss Pompey though, try to get back when i can - usually for the football.

Is this a Santiago Calatrava design? If so he is becoming more and more prolific!
Fine shots and you've captured the inherent abstractness of this quite well. Night architectual photography is always challenging. I'd like to see these MUCH larger. This looks like one I might have to put on my once a decade architectural tour.
When you pop over give me a call and I'll take you for a beer or two.

The 10x8's are excellent - I'm just wondering if their sharp enough to go bigger. Guess I'm going to have to spend money to find out.
