    Somewhat Evil

This patch of woods seems threatening to me for some reason? Fuji Velvia film.

Evil indeed. The setting itself looks very dark and grim. The perfect weather and place to bury a murdered body. Nice photo!

Yeah I agree scaralgol ... looks like this could be an illegal burial ground. I'll remember that if I ever see something not right looking or a car parked there Thanks for commenting!

    Re: Somewhat Evil

I think this could be even more menacing in B&W, and perhaps a crow or two.

With that deep blue sky it might make for a good high contrast B&W. You could use a little more space at the bottom. I got a roll of Velvia thats been in the fridge for about three years, I guess I need to shoot it up.LOL It looks like you used a CP.

    Re: Somewhat Evil

Here you go. I do like the b&w here, and using selective grayscale settings allows me to control the sky and other area density.

One thing I do not understand is why this image isn't sharper, as I did shoot it on my Mamiya 645 and those lenses are awesome. I must have hand held it and that's sloppy on the Mamiya as it doesn't balance well for hand holding; plus, the action of pressing the shutter trigger puts a twist on the camera which can cause even more camera shake. Ahh..

the black and white has more of the feel you're looking for. as for the photo itself it's a little too busy without any central main subject for my taste.

I think I like the b&w better as well. The dark sky is more moody.

    Re: Somewhat Evil

Evil no, but there is some menace there to be sure. It all reminds me of Birnham Wood; Shakespeare's moving forest in Macbeth (I think). Those trees take on a sort of human form and seem to be almost conversing amongst themselves. They are ready to make their move.
To me this is rather beautiful in colour; the silver of the trees shines out so well against the blue and the addition of the brown grasses makes up a very pleasing mixture. There is no problem with sharpness here; any more would definitely backfire on all those tiny little branches and grasses...
Your conversion to B/W is good but the images looses it's magic as a result.

I appreciate what Tom has said, but as you are after a sinister feel, I think the mono is more effective.

    Cheers

    Re: Somewhat Evil

Greg, don't remember if I used a CP. I usually avoid them on Velvia and Kodak VS because it's too much, but this one I may have (?) Shoot that Velvia !

Liban, I agree that it's marginal when it comes to a clear subject. I think that the center tree is standing in as one for now, but, I wish there was a little more separation between it and the others.

Incredible observation Tom, they do seem to be talking or in cahoots with each other .. and the far left trees seem to be leaning in towards the center, 'blocking' the hiker as he advances :eek6: I personally like both color and b&w but think they invoke different emotions .. The color is pretty but has a bad side, whereas the b&w is just downright Evil. It may be a tad too dark though.

Mike, that calls for a drink! Think of the evil trees while sipping.

Thanks too Don, Ruosis & Hminx.
