    Something Interesting Out There

    C&Cs appreciated.

I know this image is somewhat impersonal.. but am no sure if that's a detriment.

I think it works quite nice. The sky and light reflecting is quite awesome. The lady leads you into the view, and gives the whole thing a nice perspective.

I think it works well too. The "subject" I think is the sky, and the model turned toward it leads the eye to the sky and the water, where it should rest. I don't think it would have worked so well if the model and the sky had been competing for attention. The hat in her hand is a nice touch though.

I think you should crop it just below the blown out sky. But other than that I like it.

I think you could have used a bit more fill lighting on her.

Great composition and use of leading lines and light.
    No, I DON'T need that.

I like it, Im not sure about the croping, the big sky adds to the vastness of it. he colors are perfect between her dress the sky and water. good job.
(Sheesh, tell her to back up though lol she makes me nervous that close to the edge!)

It's a good composition. It would appear to be flat lighting all around, but in this case the blow out areas of the sky add to break that up and help lead the eye out to the water and reflections.

    Re: Something Interesting Out There

Thanks everyone. I guess it does "lead" one to the sun and sky (I didn't think of that) and sort of uses an imaginary line to do so, with the vanishing point being the lower bright area. Greg, I tried a crop and it seemed too cramped. I wish I could adjust that blown out area in PP but I was unable to do so convincingly.. A mask created an artificial looking border around it (but I am sure that someone with good PS skills could do it a lot better than I !). MB, I didn't use fill at all. I actually masked out the sky and brightened everything else in the photo.. But, it only worked so much. I was up against the edge there.. it may have looked washed out if I upped the lighting any more. Goes to show that all the PPing in the world can fix bad technique, or at least tough lighting situations :17: Gary, definitely flat. Some prefer that, others say it creates boring photos. What is the ideal? I don't know. Maybe there isn't any.

Lori, it's actually not a steep drop off there, just looks that way There are plenty of cliff areas at Torrey Pines though. Sadly, the other place we shot just down the beach, Black's Beach, had a terrible fatality there just a day or two ago. See the link below..
