    Something different for me

Tried to shoot some "street art" recently. These are a bit "pedestrian", but in such small cramped alleys, there wasn't room for angles. I did try anyway though, and these looked the best IMO. I like them, especially the b&w, but would like others opinions. Thanks in advance!

They are both good. I like the top one best, but it seems a bit clipped off, meaning that it could be taller. This art is very American Indian in design... reminds me of the stone drawings they have throughout AZ and NM.

Oh and you did a good job of capturing the work on your camera, esp the bottom shot - GB

Payne, I really dig the first one. I like how you framed the graffiti and how the wall details fit in the scene. The tones and the contrast are quite striking as well.

I am ambivalent about the second picture. It is visually interesting but but I get the feeling that you are only documenting someone else work rather than creating your own. What I mean by that is that the framing is so tight that there is no room for composition. I am just looking straight at the painting rather than enjoying a photograph that take advantage of the street art to be something more. To sum things up, it looks good but it's not for the "good" reasons.

    Re: Something different for me

Thanks Seb, and GB. I too feel strongly about the first one. The second is basically as if i walked into a museum and snapped someone's work, but I was hoping to somehow pull it off anyway. No matter, that's 1 -1 tie score!

Second one reminds me of that children's hospital shot...

    Payn-
I think your first image is just dynamite! Good exposure and composition. I have nothing to pick at. I believe I remember you saying something about "street art" after I had commented about one of Gary's Empty street images. I still say there is a difference between street art graffiti and gang land taggery. Having done some of the former myself in a previous life I do know the difference. Funny enough this first image really reminds me of an underpass my friends and I painted. Thanks for bringing that all back for me. ;)

    Re: Something different for me

I like both very much. I think I would have liked the second better if there had been someone perhaps sitting in the foreground or something putting it more in context (a trash can, a bucket of paint, etc.). As it stands, I would have to agree with Seb on his point.
