    Some more macro.

Busted out the 180mm this week. I would love some critiqueage on these.

They are from a butterfly pavilion near my house. I did some simple level tweaks.

I don't want it, I just need it...to breath ...to feel ...to know I'm alive.

Yikes! Great shots, but freaky. The first one seems psychedelic. The second is just very good all around - placement of the insect in the frame, colors, lighting, etc. I wonder how he feels about walking over daggers?

    afdlips,

I really like the first shot. It's got great, bright colors. My only (small) complaint is the lack of focus on some parts of the butterfly. I see it on the wings and the tops of the eyes. Either way, it's not enough to really bother me.

    Thanks GB1 and PrevailingCondish,

I guess its the bugs version of walking on hot coals... maybe?

I didnt notice it on my mindblowing 2" LCD, but i wish i had shot with F/6 or above just so there was more detail in the wings.

    afd,

I don't think it's bad enough to spoil this shot. I bet it looks really nice printed at a large size. It's just something that I'd look for the next time around. Have you tried a B&W version of the second? I'm curious to see how it would look.

Yep, usually need a deeper DOF than you'd think with macro. That usually means a faster film speed and/or a tripod.
