Because I can see the entire dock? in the first one. Even if there are footprints there I still prefer it more.

I like the first one...your eye travels from the bottom right corner to the top left..I like that. It feels like you're going someplace in the picture---not just standing still.

I voted for the first one, the square crop, because it is the most loosely cropped of the three and I think they are all a bit too tightly cropped. i like that i can see the entire subject.

Let it snow.... let it snow... let it snow...... (singing off tune)

    Do i love snow....

I'll go with the first.....and either reshoot it, coz yeah they feel a little too tightly cropped....

Or just Crop a little from the bottom so it no longer feels like a "mistake"... placing it in a way that would show you meant to crop it this way, and it is not an accident....it feels this way... i am not saying it is a mistake....

    Just my opinion anyway

Great photos...you must have had a great day!

    Chunck,

I'm for the first and agree with Mark about the accidental clipping of the edge of the dock and the tightness of the crops.

One other thing in the first there is something creeping into the top left of the frame, which could be a dock on the other side which you need to watch for if you reshoot.

The first one with no footprints at all or the first one with one set of footprints out to the end. Of course there is also the option of taking out the footprints in number one using PhotoShop.

    Re: Soft

Thanks for the votes and inciteful analyses. I have to agree that the first is the strongest. I like that the shadow is included as well. I wish I had thought at the time about having footsteps all the way to the end as I would have walked out there with maybe a turn to the left and one to the right after taking these shots.
