I think this is pretty good, but I'm feeling like I need to see more of the ocean behind him to get the full impact. I feel like it may be too tightly cropped for it's own good. Good placement of the surfer, but I think seeing the board would improve this as well.
Actually, being that the surfer is looking down to the left frame, it would have worked best to place him in the upper right corner.

I agree strongly with gahspidy about the cropping, but for me the board isn't necessary. I'd settle for more legs and less splash obscuring the torso.

thanks for the input the reason i cropped it this way, is becuase there is another surfer trying to catch a wave on the left, but im gonna retry this one and see if i can fix it

I like this crop better, it gives a scale to the photo. The other crop is more dramatic.....
