Snowfall at The Wall.

I caught these at lunchtime a couple of weeks ago.

At first I was thinking about using the close-up without people in the image but then I started fooling around with some other views. Now I am leaning towards the shot with the reflection of people but the wider view is nice too.

Pick one for me will ya?

Hmm. The problem here is, I like the first and second images the best, but don't like that near flag's pole blocking the view of the one just beyond. Arggg.

I like the last one. All of them are exceptional photographs. The problem that I have is the subject. An iconic artwork is difficult to photograph. Interaction with the artwork often photographs well. This is essentially a very large tombstone dedicated to the ineptitude of American Foreign Policy. The only thing I can suggest is going back and getting a shot from the same perspective, only exposing it for the names. It really is all about the names, having one is fine, but I would go for a minimum of five and have the others fade, just some thoughts. They would be very good photographs in any other place, in my mind.

The second does it for me....the flag frames the reflection of the other 2 flags and the people make it real.

I like the second to last one the best. It has the color of the flags contrasted against the gray wall and skys, but it also has those nice leading lines going back into the distance to give a sense of size and scale.

The last one is nice too, but I didn't really appreciate it the first time I saw it. It took me a little to notice the reflection of the monument.

I like the first image, the b/w. The Wall is almost holy ground, people are muted and this is perfect. The colored images are terrific, but when I saw this I much preferred the lasting feeling.

The second posting you made, the color shot, feels completely different. Seems to be a lot of negative space. Not sure about that big leaf in the foreground though: it grabs a lot of the attention. The pic is over saturated too, IMHO -- almost seems like the difference between Fuji in that one and Kodachrome on the first posting (??). The black and white, that is an interesting shot. I think I like it so much because Army stuff looks good in B&W. I think I might completely crop out the concrete ground and just like the wreath float. But either way, the photo makes an impression.

I like the third one the most. The flag in the first two is too distracting (and it looks like there's a left-ward tilt).

MB1, of the three you initially posted, the third is the strongest, by far. And very good at that. The 1st two suffer from having the blurry flag in the fg. The 3rd has strong leading lines toward the bg, good reflections and clarity, and a composition that feels tight but not cramped as the other two. There is a definite subject and the reflections, leading lines, and bg compliment it. It is a nice piece.

From the three posted the third is the better of the group, however I wish the first flag was sharper. I like the composition and the colours are nice.

i actually prefer the first one.

i know that it has a blurred flag in the foreground but that actually adds something for the shot rather than (to me at least) take away from.

i think it shows the wall, we all can figure that out, with the small flags it really tells me that it is about remembrance than anything else.

it is a stark reminder of the american heroes.

i don't really think the names would add to anything to be honest.

the number of names is quite apparent in the b & w which i think and agree, military stuff needs to be black and white (the one with the soldier you posted a bit ago covered with snow was compelling).


might not fall into line with the rules, but in this case i don't think it is about art or composure particularly.

just a stark reminder of those who have fallen. simplistically shown.

I like the top shot best, I think it's great. I thought the others are good as well, but not as good at the top. One thing that detracted from some of them for me is just that the flag looks a little more plastic flaggy, than it does in the first. Like in the third and fourth shots.
