B&W needs a tad more contrast but for me the Colour is superb. I can now see where the halo comes from in the colour version. So boosting the contrast in B&W will not work properly for this photo.

Although I like the color version as it is "pretty" to the eye, I think the B&W sends the message better/faster. I saw the color version before when you posted it and I didn't easily understand the title to it then because I was distracted by the colors.
For this man, his age and condition are more evident in B&W. I did a quick edit and the wrinkles and skin blemishes come through better. The only downside with the B&W is that the fact that he is a monk is not as evident. Glad to show you my edit of your image if interested.
