    Sled Dogs

I took photos at this race last year with a telephoto lens and have some really nice close up shots of the dogs. This year I decided to shoot the race with a wide angle lens
(17mm and a crop sensor), but I don't think I was super successful.

This was taken mid-day in bright sun so I tried to tone down the contrast and bring out a little more detail in the snow.

What could I have done differently to make this shot a little more dynamic.

    Thanks

    Chris

    Re: Sled Dogs

To make this more dynamic, I think it would have been good if you could have been farther back enough to get the whole team from a close to 90 degree view and panned with the team to blur the bg. A team that long would put you quite a ways back though and maybe too far, making the team too small.
For this particular shot, you could try cropping top and bottom to make it a pano.
I like the shot as is but see what you mean about making it more dynamic.
    Keep Shooting!

    Re: Sled Dogs

    I luv this shot.
Did you take more as they went by?

    As for suggestions.
What about a ND gradient filter to tone down the snow and boost the trees and sky?
How about wide-angle closeups? IMO they are way better than zoomed closeups.

Besides the above great advice, I'd say with a wide angle lens like that you need to get right in the face of the action as it's running by (if that was allowed), this would bring the viewer (in my opinion) into the shot and have made it more action oriented and interesting. S
