    Simple Photography

I'm going to start experimenting what some people may call "Simple Photography."

    This picture is the beginning.

I'm not so sure about it, so of course I had to come here to get some critique.

    Thanks.

Every story has a beginning. I think the best of the stuff like this I've seen has carefully controlled light and shadows and angles and perspectives. This one seems a little haphazard. You've set yourself quite a challenge.

    Re: Simple Photography

This is a goog beginning, and LavaLamp is right about these type shots having controlled lighting and angles, perspectives etc. This does have a haphazard look to it, however, I find it has a certain appeal. The crooked looking table, the huge shadow from the lamp looking so intrusive that it feels intentional, and the simple ordinary looking set that might otherwise be boring if not for the somewhat whimsical look of all the "faults" Possibly a series of "simple" photography but with a twist in that everything looks "wrong" , but thats where the charm could be found such as in this shot. Just my op. Looking forward to more from this series

well put Gary, I like the crookedness of it too, the light reflection off in the wrong place, the crazy shadow, everything about it strikes me as odd, but in a good way.

    Re: Simple Photography

It's odd and for all the reasons given below; this should be a bad photograph! the lighting, positioning, crookedness, all adds up to the idea that the photo should be bad.

however, the photo does work, and could be the beginning of a very interesting series, but if you are going down the route of haphazard and whimsical be careful.........over elaboration of doing the "wrong" thing, could end up looking contrived.

Have fun with this all the same, take loads of pictures, some staged some a little more 'snappy' and see what you get!

by the way, i like the photo, in case you're wondering!

    cheers
    anew.
