    Simple life

    Animals have it made sometimes.

Not sure there's anything at all with this one, but I do like it's simplicity.

I think there's a bit too much empty space, but I really like the reflection.

    Re: Simple life

The simplicity works but the tones are too grey (not necessarily colour wise but contrast wise) I think it needs a bit of a punch. I also think it might have been better with more texture in the water, like ripples or something. that would've gotten rid of the feeling of so much negative space as n8 eluded to.

Personal opinion but I think this rocks just as it is, maybe a tad off the top and left if you must, or maybe not.
ps ( my wife loves it as well )

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

I love the reflection. Your right, it simple but the simplicity could be also beautiful.

    Re: Simple life

thanks fellows. I agree that there's quite a bit negative space, but I think it creates a feeling of emptiness, expanse, and/or simplicity. My shots often clutter up so I'm happy to move in the opposite direction for a change

Liben, I see the same thing you do, it is a bit flat. I tried editing it and it just looked terrible ... ugh. In the end I just left it exactly as it was.

    Re: Simple life

I like the simplicity to this . The neg space is good. Good positioning of the bird. My only nit would be having had a bit more light on the birds eye and no shadow on its top/back.

    Fine and simple

btw, as for the flat tone/color, might be nice as a b&w to go along with the minimilism

    GB, I like the image!

Here are my comments for improvement ...

I'll like to see the bird a bit bigger in the frame
The light is too harsh/blown on the whites
The detail on the bird are a bit blurry ?

    Re: Simple life

Thanks for the added comments fellows. I tried a few edits here for Armando and Gary to make the bird bigger in the frame (which requires removing some of the negative space), and a black and white. But I also tried a few small effects: one to simplify details, the other to increase contrast and color. I don't see a significant difference, but perhaps you will. Also not sure about the smaller frame?

ps - Armando, I did play w/ the image to see if I could recover details in the white area: no way. I guess this is what RAW images are good for, but this one was taken with straight JPG. Also, it's cropped quite a bit, so the detail is slightly reduced.

I prefer the original too. I think the problem with the negative space is it lacks any detail. If the sand was more visable. It seems the highlights are slightly blown, try burning some on the birds breast.
