    Similar...but different

I think this photo is different enough to warrant it's own thread. I wasn't happy with the original, so I played around with the colours. It's more of an experiment than anything else. Does it work for you?

Yes and no .. I do like the texturing and the composition and the lighting, but I'm not overly fond of the colour.

Not crazy about the bright blue center, but I do like it as a background.

I like it, when considering it from an artistic perspective. Might have given it a touch more room on the bottom. S

I like it as well. The pedals have almost an IR look to them. Nice work.

Thanks. I might run with this theme for a while perhaps, while I fine tune my close-ups/macro work. The colour, I wanted to be different, I didn't care too much on what it was, just different. They do have an IR look, I might re-shoot later on, different angles and then diff. colours.

    Re: Similar...but different

As others have noted, I like the lighting, texturing, composition. The sharpness is great, but the color mixture is bothersome to me - one, because I prefer realism (like a yellow center) though I certainly do appreciate the art factor, but mostly, because I don't think the colors are especially flattering to one another.

The royal blue center and the bluegreen stem don't work together for me. And the mass of clean royal blue color against the dirty pink tones don't work for me.

What if you changed the clean royal blue color to more of a somewhat dirty (grayed) blue toward the red side (purplish blue)?

Love your background color and petals and stem is pretty good, and I like the value of the blue in the center but I just don't think that particular color of blue works well.

All that said, I wish my macro work looked as good!
