i think this is quite nice. i like the darker tones in the fg going to the lighter at the distance. the fact that the sky is blown out in this, i feel, works for me because it allows the silos to stand out strong against the plain gray mass. Also, looks like you knelt down to get this from a lower angle, which worked well as it brings the tracks right up to me, and the silos towering in the sky. A dramatic touch. I like it.

    Re: Silos

Hi guys, thanks for the comments!

Gary, I'm glad you're okay with the sky. It was clear and featureless anyway, so I thought the contrast was more important. The angle of view is a result of this being taken with a TLR. I had the camera on a strap around my neck when I spotted it, then I used a tripod for the shot.

Freygr, sorry I couldn't get a steam engine in the shot for you. That would be cool. I pass through this little town travelling from Austin to my home town in East Texas. There are a lot of silos in several little towns I go through. I haven't seen any steam engines though.

Nice shot. I would have liked to see the contrast even higher so that the ridges on the sides of the silos could be more visible. But it might make the contrast at the bottom too harsh.

On clear cold days, those ridges can be quite dazzling and mesmerizing when you see them off in the distance.

    Lovely shot,

reminds me a bit of bernd and hilda becker photographs (think i have the spelling right)

agree with gary on the point of view, works really well...

you might think of straightening up the verticals a bit, the slight slant puts me off a bit...something small and easily fixed if wanting to.

    looks great
    cheers

Thanks Loupey and Anew, for your comments.

I plan to take this negative to the dark room tomorrow. Hopefully the ridges will stand out better on paper. I have a cheap scanner. I'll also be able to straighten it up a little.

    Thanks again!
