    Sierras

My last few shots from a recent trip to the eastern Sierras.

Both were shot on Kodachrome 64 and scanned in. It seems to me that digital images are always going to be sharper than film ones scanned in: I just can't get them as sharp as I know they should be. :mad2: Maybe I'll switch to digital sometime soon.

Hi GB - I agree, I have so many photos from my film days that I would love to scan in, but you seem to lose something in translation. I'm looking into getting one of those high-resolution scanners that will scan directly from negatives and slides. My fingers are crossed!

Anyway.... Photo #2 shows some beautiful scenery, but photo #1 is my favorite of the two. Very nice colors (soft but striking) and the composition really draws me in. I like the contrast between the jagged rocks and the smooth water. Very nice!

Very nice GB, what's this film you speak of? I gotta get some of that. These kind of shots make me wanna go back to film.

I think I like the first one too for those wonderful soft colors.

Sweeeet. Both of 'em. These are ones I'd like to see larger and in a print. When does you calendar come out?

I'm looking for something in the fore- or middle-ground in the second one, maybe.

Thanks for the looks and the comments!

Reanna- I actually do have one of those high-resolution scanners. It does a nice job overall and I'm quite happy with it, but still, it seems like other photographers' original digital shots are sharper than my scans. Like you said, something is inevitably lost in translation. :cryin: Yeah, the dawn shot is nicer to me too. I guess it was worth getting up that early in the cold

Payn, that's Kodachrome 64. That's probably the only major thing about digital that makes me wonder: you can't change films for (slightly) different effects and grains - all changes must be done on the computer. Of course, if you scan in film, you have that avenue available also.

Lava - Maybe I'll do a calender someday. That'd be fun. You're right, the 2nd shot needs a little something in the middle ground. Where's a deer when you need one?

GB - Make sure you let us know when that calendar's ready so you can start taking orders.

That second picture looks very familiar. Is that the back way into Yosemite from the 395?

Schrackman - Yeah, there's a back way into Yosemite right near here.. I'm not sure if that's the particular road though. Since I wasn't driving it I didn't pay that much attention. I do know that a sign said that the pass was still closed due to snow (on Memorial day weekend!)
