    Shrimp platter

I got this shot while out at the beach this past weekend.

    Equipment: Canon EOS 20D w/EF 400mm f/5.6L

    Thanks,

Gosh, aren't you lucky! From the look of it, it must have been more or less a grab shot. Even so, you got the bird (and shrimp!) in sharp focus, and a non-descript background to boot. A slight shame the nearside wing is sort of obscured against the body of the bird, but you can't have everything. Well done!

Far wingtip looks a little soft.
But great focus on the eye and shrimp !
Was this using AF, if so, which mode?

I agree, great shot. Don't really mind the soft focusing on the far wing. Great shot

    Hey Greg,

This is a great shot. When it comes to birds, YOU THE MAN!

I think the image could have more pop by pushing the histogram around some. I've attached an idea for you to consider (and improve upon). I apologize in advance if you don't want others mucking with your photos.

    Cheers,
    Tim

What software are you using, Tim?
I've only got PS Elements at the moment, and its levels/histogram tools are pretty poor.
Canon Digital Photo Professional ... well it isn't very
I'm looking for better post-processing tools, PC based.

    Hi Paul,

I've used Paint Shop Pro the past number of years. I really like it. And, it's a good deal at around $100. The only thing I wish it did better was Color Management. It is also not color space aware. And, this is starting to become a limitation since I've moved up to shooting with a DSLR. I may step up to PS, but I'd rather spend my money on something else.

    Cheers,
    Tim

    Re: Shrimp platter

Thanks for the suggestion and example, I really appreciate it. I had initially tried brightening it up a bit but found that the noise levels were starting to get a little higher than I wanted. I do agree that a bit brighter would be better.

I really appreciate all the comments and suggestions!

    Greg
