Shot of D.C. - Too Much Tree?

I like the light but can't decide if the tree takes up too much room in the frame.

I think this works with the amount of tree branches you put in. It works well to frame the subject and since your subject is quite simple, it balances the whole shot out. Being it a silhouette is a great addition too.

    Well done,

It's fine, without it the framing would have to be like just another post card......

In this case, I think the trees are fine. I can imagine this image without them and I think it would be too flat with the sky you had there.

Had the sky had more texture to it, I would probably go the opposite and frame without the trees.

I don't mind it at all. Without the branches, there would be too much space, IMO.

    I agree, leave the tree.
I would burn in the fore ground and tree. I think that would provide a nice border for the light and not have a distracting foreground.
    Nice color.
    Cheers.

Wow, that is weird, I was just in D.C. this weekend and got nearly the exact same shot! Different angle though, I shot it from the Lincoln Memorial. Not the best I've ever shot...but similar lighting.

Re: Shot of D.C. - Too Much Tree?

Thanks much for the feedback folks! I've had a chance to study this one on my wallpaper for a while and it's grown on me.

Echo Back: That is SO weird. Did you take that picture on Saturday evening? If you did you might have been in MY picture. Of course we can't see you though because I'm across the river and you're standing sandwiched between the Lincoln and the Washington Monuments. It does look like they were done at the same time though. Too funny!! I have a question for you about your picture though. Was this a long exposure? The tip of the WM seems to be wiggling! (Payn - don't even start with me about tip wiggling or you'll think I'm the one with the gutter mind again! (Oh grow up Marge!))I know we had a stiff breeze that day but Jeeze, I had no idea it moved that much! I might never go to the top of it again!

Guilty as charged. You're right, I do have a lowest common denominator sense of humor. I figured I'd just say it before someone else did. ;)

....keep the tree. It emphasises what time of year it is, and gives the picture a " temperature " in my view.

CLKunst, yes, i was there saturday evening! weird! Hmm, that is strange, I didn't notice that the tip of the monument is "wiggling" but it really does look like that dosen't it? Nope, I didn't take it with a long exposure, but I do recall it was pretty windy that evening, so I bet that's what it was.
