    Re: Shadow Play

    I'll play, Alison.

Pros: The composition of the shadows is great

Cons: I don't like the discontinuity of the wall and grass (especially near mid frame). I'm also a little freaked out by the shadow itself - it kind of looks like a shadow of a puppet

Great to see a different side of you! keep shooting.

    Ali,

This is a neat shot! As Loupey said, the composition is great! It made me think of a passage from Ray Bradbury's Martian Chronicals about an automated house that keeps operating after a nuclear war (in that story there is the shape, in paint, on the side of the house of a child about to catch a ball that is the "shadow" left when the bomb explodes and the paint is burnt off, except where it was blocked by something.) Kind of a dark interpretation, but there you have it... Probably just me...

Ewww yuk! I have never seen that film. It kinda makes me wish I hadn't taken the photograph now.

Alison, I really like it but it felt frankly spooky right at the first place, before I even read Loupey and Mpreslar comments. I am not sure why, it might have something to do with the posture of the person. Anyway, coming from me, "spooky" isn't a flaw. Your picture holds my interest.

Not at all Ali! As I said, it is probably just me. And as Seb said, spooky isn't a flaw, it makes the image memorable. (And I never saw the film version either, just read the book. Bradbury is pretty good at imagery in his writing though. I doubt that the scene even made the movie version or else it was done poorly. ;) )

    Re: Shadow Play

I like the concept. It's pretty neat what ol' fasion shadows can create. I agree with mpreslar that it does remind one of some old movie(s)... to me, it reminds me of War of the Worlds and the Martians when they left their ship to scout around. The black and white probably adds to that feeling.

Overall, a successful expt. Now try it again with a flat background etc.
