    Seven Eleven

Start to work at 7 am till 11 pm. Not uncommon in Hong Kong. Welcome your comments.

    Re: Seven Eleven

I can't figure this photo out, and your desc. adds even more mystery. Is it supposed to signify that one is getting home from work late? The sign of the woman is interesting (the angle, really) and the way the fellow is looking to the left, it makes it seem like he might be looking at the same thing she is. Very interesting composition, anyways. The contrast between the dark up top and the lit up area is a little harsh btw. But not too bad. I also wonder if adding someof the street would have added to the shot.

    Re: Seven Eleven

Yoyo, to me this is either a person going to start a days work or has just finished up and coming home late. Either way, it signifies a long, hard day coming or having passed. But I would not have gathered that from the image alone, only from you having given a bit of background to the image.
I like the size relation between the ad poster and the person on the street. I think it would have been stronger with the person standing in front of a blank white space as opposed to in front of the add subjects.

    Yoyo,

I've been staring at this for a while and as already said without the explanation I didn't get it.

Several aspects, such as lighting, sharpness, I like but its not clear what the chap in the photo is waiting for and it may have been better if he was looking up at the poster so that you could say that he was infatuated with the woman in the poster or something like that. Also as already mentioned a little separation from his background would be good.

Hold on is this a train station? Then more of the platform would be better and possibly the tracks.

    Hi Guys,
Thanks for the comments. The lady is waiting for a tram after work. My original idea is to depict the loneliness of she after work. GB and Roger, I agree the addition of more street scene would bring the pic to another perspective. Gary, you are right about the separation of the lady from the advertisment would have a better image.

    Hi Yoyo,
This is great! At fist, I thought it was a front of a vending machine in the 7-11 or something.... And, then I figured it out. Such a nice use of scale you have here.

I find it interesting that the "marketing" images are of European looking women. Why not some gorgeous Asians?

    Hi Yoyo,

At first I was having a hard time with reconciling the title, but now I get it. The mood of the street light, the girl waiting for a ride/bus. It could be either of those times, early morning or late evening for her to be standing there. And the luxurious ad woman and her smaller counterparts on the wall in stark relief are the only ones who mark her passing.

Hi Tim and CLK, Thanks for sharing your views on this shot. Tim, it just happens that the ads use the western elements in it. I'll show some eastern elements next time.

I like this shot. The colors & range work for me. The only thing that bugged me was the bright street lamp. I copied the shot into PS and cropped the light & above it out. That worked for me to balance the shot out but I think thats just a personal preferance at that point.

    cheers

    Hi Paul,
You are right about the lamp. I overlooked it. Thanks a lot.

I really like this shot yoyo. I think you've captured the mood really well here. Everything is superbly lit, except for the hot lamp up top. Also I wish the figure was in front of the centre square where no figures are present. She seems to be fighting the images behind her. Her against a white panel would've done plenty to get more focus on her.

Good shooting and a lovely shot.

Well, I missed that one... Your composition is excellent, That's a genuine Yoyo shot, there is no doubt about that!!

I do agree that the lamp at the top should be cropped and that the woman should ideally stand in front of a blank space (but that was totally out of your control and it's not such an issue in my view). My only real concern is the lamp.

That's a very strong photograph, minus a small, easily fixeable issue.
