Senior Thesis Project - Abandoned Hospitals

    Hello all,

This is a start of my senior thesis project of a mental institutions. It will probably be what I apply to grad school with. They were all taken with the Nikon n80 with either my 28-80 Sigma 3.5 lens or my Nikon 50 1.8. 800 speed film for color and 400 B&W pushed to 800. Very low light situations so I need high speed and a steady hand. Some images were actually shot as low as 20th of a second. I leaned on something and really concentrated!..Dont want to be bogged down with a tripod since I have to crawl through windows and its very dangerous to be in there to begin with. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!!!

    strong images

hi there... BE CAREFUL! now that I got that out of my system---

I really think the first, second and fourth (going clockwise from the first) are the strongest...particularly the shoe. that one alone conveys in my opinion how isolated and ignored patients at menatal health facilities tend to be...the chair facing the corner...even the third with the grouping of chairs and the single chair set apart...

the first set are all well composed and appear to have good details and colors (maybe post a little bigger about 400 height-it's really hard to see that small.)

I'm really impressed please keep us posted on any more shots and ....

    BE CAREFUL

what 's the name of the institution?

these aren't as strong to me as the first set...they lack a story like the first. they are well composed but not at as strong IMHO

We have an abandoned mental hospital not far from where I live, and you have just inspired me to make a trip. Great photos, full of emotion. If you have seen any of my stuff, I love emotive work. This is a awesome idea, did I mention I like the idea....LOL
