    Self Portrait

Hello. I havn't posted on this forum in years! I'm finally getting back into photography. I'm trying to take some self portraits of myself, but I'm having a hard time. I've done lots of outdoor photography (www.mongeese.org) but portraits I've never been good at. What do you think of this one? I took it with my Nikon Coolpix 5700 and desaturated it in photoshop.

Here's another one. It's a closer shot. I think the camera is a little to low though.

I am not keen on cc-ing other people's images when mine are less than perfect but how else would we learn?
Both images are a little dark. You could try adjusting your levels in ps.
    Nice to meet you mongoose.

Not bad at all.. I think the top photo is very good. Looks a little retro with the wood building and all. The photos are a tad dark, but for whatever reason that doesn't bother me here.

    Welcome back!

It's tough to lighten it up without getting some weird grainy contrast issues. Maybe I'll have to reshoot it at a higher exposure.

    Re: Self Portrait

I like the bottom shot since it is straight forward. The top shot bugs me where the windows is jabbed into your shoulder as if it were attached to you. The same window in the other shot is covered by your body in a better overlap.

It's too dark but some one mentioned that already.

I haven't done an SP in over a decade. Maybe it is time to try?

Just go into PS and one of the menus has a lighness slider and just lighten up the images, I did download one of the images and lighten it up and saw no problems.

    Re: Self Portrait

I like the first one if you crop off the top section where nothing is happening. I think that adds to the shot greatly as there isn't alot of breathing room for your feet on the bottom bit of your shot. Again, a tad dark, but that's an easy fix.

    Well done.

I went back to the original and adjusted the levels and cropping. It does look a lot nicer now.

    Mongoose,

Great edit and redo. Fixed everything that needed to be fixed and the shot looks great now!

    Well done,

    Jared
