At the time of this fire it wa 0 deg F here, it was cold. I can't rember when I have ever been that cold in my life. I went in the hous just to melt the ice off my gear, I had like 10 pounds of ice on my helmet.

I agree about the mirror, but I also like the angle you choose the use. nIce work again.

I like this fire scene shot, with all the rigs, and hoses, but that mirror does blank out a
portion of the image, and is slightly distracting.
Taking the shot slightly lower, (below the mirror) would still capture all the rigs, and hoses,
and maintain the integrity of the shot.
You can still sense or feel the action though.
I like it Tyson !

You are right, I should have shot this one lower. I didn't even think of that.......

One of the reasons I took these shots was to show how different our job can be. I have been to worse as far as the weather. The 0 deg days are bad but when it's 90 deg its worse.

    Re: Second post for me.

I have no problem with the mirror because to me it's supposed to show how close the engines are and how cluttered everything is when they're responding to a fire. To me, it achieves exactly that. If there was more human interaction in the shot, I feel that it might move to another level (I dont count that fellow's arm on the right). It's almost like a 'day in the life' type shot... this is what they do, and what they see, on a daily basis. It's successful.

btw, here's a nitpick for ya - crop out most of that red on the left side almost to the circular door handle. Other than that, no complaints.

I never even noticed the arm in the picture, the red door, do you think the difference in color is distracting? Is that why you say crop it out?

Tyson---was this the only shot you had time for, or did you get more? There are a lot of possibilities here. Stay safe.

Tyson - I wish I could articulate.. it's hard to explain that is, but sometimes I just think slight crops or color changes make a picture better. Could be due to less things happening (a limit on # of objects before one reaches the edge), just too many colors (again, a limit might be reached)... who knows. Not a big deal, and very subjective... a nit pick.

I LOVE this shot - except for the mirror. It distracts too much for me. I'd like it to have just a touch more detail.

Course I've always been a sucker for fire trucks. My very first picture with my first 'real' camera (Konica in 1980) was just after I bought it in NYC. Snapped a fire truck that was outside the firehouse for a bath.

You must have great opportunities to take shots at fires. How cool.
