    Sea Shore

Shot this during my recent trip

some heavy processing on this one, oversharpening the foam, pulling shadows on the rocks, selective saturation/desaturation

Wish the rocks in the foreground were sharper, I guess my focus point was on infinite, or I do not know if the lens didn't like it being at f/22 , I brought the ND filter and forgot it at the camp that would have let me use a wider aperture

maybe crop the bottom rocks, I think the rest of the image is sharp enough, except the bird that may have moved during the long exposure

Thanks in advance for any comment or critiques you may have

I like this shot overall, and you pretty much summed up my possible critiques.

Its a good thing you pointed out there is a bird in the shot tho, i totally missed it

Great image! I'm a little torn on this one. I like what you did with the PP. I kind of wish you placed the horizon in the lower third rather the upper, but I guess the sky was a little boring for that. I just wish you had not cut off the top of the mountain.

I'm looking at it, thinking to myself, "I'd like to see the mountain instead of the foreground rocks," and then read through and found someone beat me to it.

So ditto on raising the viewpoint.

    Thanks for the comments

seeing the shot I agree, a slightly higher view would have been nice, the top is not that far from where I cut it

I was to concentrated on shooting the water with a long exposure

too bad this place is to far, not easy to reshoot, maybe next year ...

I think it's very powerful Armando. Success! It has a 'big aquarium' feeling and probably looks best in a very large size. The amount of swirl is just right, adding some mystery. I'm not sure why the pic is a little soft like it is, as I assume you had it on a tripod. It may be just as you said that it doesn't like f22, but it might have been the water was hitting the legs and added some vibration, or the wind was blowing. It could also be that your lens isn't super sharp in the corners.

I think if you crop from a little below the half way point that it's another picture - not better, just different. I tried a crop here for you to see - it doesn't seem as 3-D though.

    Thanks Greg,

Checking the metadata the focus was on manual, and I do not recall focusing it, the previous night I had been shooting stars and left the camera with those settings , at least I had to lower the ISO to obtain a long exposure

Some vibration on tripod is possible I was triggering the shooter by hand, water or wind not likely, I was out of the water and no wind that I recall.

It didn't help my concentration to have a camping neighbor snoring very loudly right on the next tent.

I'm pretty torn on this one. I'm a fan of texture everything you've done, but I think the "floating" look of the land in the background and the water hurts it. It looks more like an applied filter rather than motion. I understand you did the best you could without a nd filter, but I think for me the nature of the land mass is really odd.

It's not my style, but I see what you are going for. Looks like a painting, very nice.

    Re: Sea Shore

I really like the foreground and the detail under the surface, but the distance element doesn't work for me as the main rock on the right just takes over the shot in the top half. A twist to the left would have been better for me. Still nice tho.

    Thanks nate, travis and baldemort

Baldmort, I see your point I'm not happy with that rock taking part of the bottom of the hill in the background

Armando I like the original, your edit better. The rock in the forground adds to the shot. You nailed the processing and composition as well. i like the long exposure. Nice work.
