    A Scowl from the Basket

Photo taken during a recent visit to my son's house. This is my Grandson, Kiran, giving us a scowling look from his... what do you call those "travel bed" sort of carriers?. He's beginning to develop quite a personality.

I must not be choosing the ISO wisely, so of lot of these look a bit grainy. But I hesitate to set my S3 IS on "A", and let it choose for me. I don't remember what setting this was taken with, but probably 200 or 400. Is there any way to find that out after the fact? From the picture data? I did do some color adjustment, and red eye correction. Any advice?

You're histogram should tell you. I shot 400iso indoors with no grain problems, even when I use film. It looks here as though you were to close with the flash.Try backing of from your subject and zooming in, bounce the flash if you have one that will. That will get rid of the red eye. You're DOF looks good and you also filled the frame with your subject.

If you have a PC and held on to an unedited version of the image, you should be able to right click on the file in your explorer window (i.e. my computer). From there click on the properties tab, then on the bottom of the window there should be an "advanced" button. From there it should tell you all of the technical information that your camera recorded about the image, like ISO, shutter speed, aperture, etc...

I like to increase my ISO only if the camera is about to shoot a shutter speed I can't hand hold. I can hand hold 1/30 but anything slower is questionable for me.

Crop out the safety label on the left to improve the shot.

Yes, I am well aware of this feature... unfortunately ISO is the one item it does not report. Is that camera dependent? I am using a Cannon S3 IS.
