    Scotland- Loch Ossian

Something a little different from my usual London shots, I took this while I was hiking in Scotland. I was staying in a hostel by Loch Ossian, which is a marvellous place. You get off the train in the middle of nowhere, and it is about a mile to the hostel at the edge of the Loch. The nearest town was about 12 miles away - so we made do with the copious amounts of Scotch we took with us to keep the evenings entertaining.

It may only be a travel snap, but for me this captured the area quite well, so I'm fond of it.

    Thanks for looking,

    matt

Great image here. This looks more than a snap. Looks like the last scene of a story. I feel as if a story has been played out and now the characters are heading off for Home Sweet , Home. Great shot. btw. . I usually feel reflections are great in almost all scenes, but for some reason I feel like I rather not have the reflection in this scene. Just a personal thing here though. Good work

    Hi,
I think the DOF is to small and the focus at the reflection may not be appropriate. I agree with Gary about the feeling the pic.

Good points brought up by Yoyo. I actually like the narrow dof as I like the bg to be sort of dreamy and not sharp, but I think yoyo hit it on the head about the focal point. I think the focal point here (area in focus) is the immediate foreground and just to the reflection where as I think it would have been a bit stronger to have focused more on the subjects walking away.

Cool picture, it looks like a beautiful place. I like the composition and the use of the reflection. I don’t know if it is just the way this was scanned or processed but the people don’t look like they are perfectly in focus and this was the first thing that jumped out at me when I looked at the photo.

Thanks for the comments, I'm glad some other people like this. It was taken using a very simple fixed focus compact a couple of years ago, and my print wasn't in a great state so it took a lot of cleaning up after I scanned it. I think you are right on the focus, even with an automatic I somehow managed to miss where the focus should have been, and highlighted the reflection more than the people, doh! I only really included it because for all its obvious faults it the feel of the location seemed to come through, and it seemed fairly seasonal.

Merry Christmas everyone. I'm being overwhelmed by two seemingly hyperactive nieces aged 2 and 4 at the moment, and I swear if I eat another thing its going to be messy!
