Very interesting shot with nice composition. The street sign and freeway in the foreground with the skyline in the back is very nice. What makes these shots hard is handling the sharp contrast between the dark trees and the brightness of the city lights and sign reflections. (Something I've struggled with a lot in some of my photos.) My plan is to try to adjust them in PS when I get it.

In this photo, large portions of the photo are taken up by the trees, but you don't see any detail in them. So, it just looks like black space. I also think the skyline is a bit overexposed for my taste. Bringing these two closer together is something I plan to work on.

Here's one of my problem pictures to show what I'm talking about. Notice how I've got a large section of dark trees with no detail in them.

    Yakko,

Gee, thanks so much for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate have included a sample of your work, too. I see what you mean and struggle with the same elements of the night shots. Very nice shot of yours though. Where was your photo taken? I like the movement of the ship at background/right.

    Thanks so much again.

It's a photo of the far end of Waikiki beach taken from a balcony on the 22nd floor of the Hyatt Regency. It was about 5:00am when the shot was taken. This hotel is on the end of the rows of hotels along there, so I had a good view of the end of the beach. The cruise ship in the background was kind of a bonus. In some ways, I wish it wasn't there. It's distracting.

    Keep up the good work.

Hehe, I was just gonna say it looks like Waikiki Beach.

I think that the ship would be nice in this shot if it was in focus. But as it is, it is slightly distracting. I think you could also get away with cropping off some of the left side, at least from the "stage or sign" down on the beach. That might cut down on the big mass of dark trees that you have.
