Too be honest, I prefer the colored version of this shot. I do like B/W photography, I just think that colors of light you have in the original make for a stronger image, to me anyways.

    Jared,

I agree, but thought I would share the b/w version.

Thanks again for all your comments.

Yeah the color one works best here. But I think the train one would work as a B&W....

I think this one is too flat in B&W, but the colour version works.

I agree. I'll play with the train image and see what that looks like.

Re: Scene II: cropped and b/w

Looking through some older (I am way behind due to work) posts I ran across this and the previous version.

This photo looks like it needs a different b/w conversion as the color version seems to have lots of potential for making into a monochrome, sepia or some other desaturated toned photo. This is too muted and the tonal variations have been affected and it needs to be lighter/brighter - more toward the overexposed. The lights are blowing out too.

I like this crop and imagine in color it would work quite well also. This version brings out the hallway more effectively from that aspect of composition. Good framing and postioning on your part to center it this way.

    Thanks for sharing!

Black and white is somewhat different from colour in the sense that when you get past excellent technique and composition, the bottom line is tonal range or how many variations are there in the grey scale of your image between rich dark blacks and accurate whites? That is what many here don't take seriously and why their black and white work would not be taken seriously at all in a professional venue.

Contrary to what some enthusiasts think, if the shot does NOT work in colour, it will be even poorer and weaker in black and white.
