    Saw it, shot it.

I don't think I've ever posted this kind of photo. If my memory still serves me, it's the first photo of this kind in decade.

    So, comments please!

    Please, please

AE, I have tried these kind of shots with no good results. I think you nailed it. I really like the way the bricks line up with the chair and table...Throw in the great crop with the black and white and well, you have a winner..
I look forward to reading other comments as well...Perhaps they will help me too.

Excellent composition. I love how you put the top of the chair at the edge of the bricks. The bright white of a line and the deep black of the chair/table is a great contrast, really makes the print pop and make it more 2 Dimensional.

It's damn near perfect in my eyes.

I like most of it but the water on the table is very distracting to me.....other then that, I think it is very good!!

I like the contrast between the table and chair and the curb. Good call on b/w....

Hmm, I actually thought the water gave it substance. It gave it context, life.

I like this and the layers of diagonal lines. there are only two small things with this that bug me. First is that the top edge of the chair lines up with the brick line. Chair would stand out stronger had it not lined up. The top edge of chair should be a line of it's own.
Second is that I want to see the chair pulled slightly away from the table only so that the leg of the chair can be seen as it forms into the chairs framing. right now the leg could also be the leg for the table.
Other than the two nit piks, it is a fine shot. The water adds for me.

That makes the two of us

Actually, I believe I took another one with the top edge of the chair not "touching" the brick line. Somehow I lost that photo. So, yeah, that's been bugging me right from the start.

Didn't think of that one :blush2:

    The water adds for me.
It was raining earlier during the day and so the water on the table. Oh, there's some more water in the photo, too: that dark top left corner is part of a pool.

I took that shot after spending three plus hours with my camera on the tripod walking around in that garden taking macros. I was packing and ready to leave. But, somehow I just felt like taking a couple of quick shots hand-held before I took off. And this's one of them. It was taken with a Nikon 105 f2.8 macro.

F-15 Flyer, Chow, cah027, hamza 88, thanks to you guys, too!

    Re: Saw it, shot it.

Why make the chair more into a chair? Why make it more identifiable? Right now it blends in with the background, so it flattens the image. The back of the chair almost seems like it's on the same layer as the bricks/etc behind it. This further abstracts the image to the eye.

I don't agree with pulling the chair out either. You pointed out that the leg of the chair could be the leg of the table, Gary, this adds to the picture for me, let me explain myself, this has the same idea as my first. It's attached to the top of the table, which is why it's hard to tell whether it's the table leg or chair leg, this further distorts the representational side of it being a chair. In this case, it also creates an interesting negative space.

I also like the water. It adds an interesting, yet sublte, contrast to the rest of the picture, organic.

The way the picture is, now, makes your eye travel all over the picture. There's no obvious subject. It's an abstract of the table, the ground, and the table. Together it makes a very nice 2 Dimensional like design, and more of something just unrepresentational.

Maybe you don't want this, I don't know? This is just my opinion.

F-15 Flyer, your perspective on this is interesting and gives me more appreciation for the way it is now. Personally, I like depth and a more three dimensional quality, but as I stated to AE these observations are really nit piks from my preferences and the image is fine as it is.

Thank you, F-15 Flyer, for explaining your perspective. I think one thing that makes this pic also works like a two-dimensional abstract is that there's practically no shadow of anything in this pic. Anyhow, I've certainly learned something this time.
